Hacking Motorola RAZR2 V8
http://www.phonesonline.ie/img/phones/motorola/motorola_razr2_v8.jpg
Motorola Razr2 V8 is built on a Linux-based Operating System, The handset have a lot of potentials because of that, its "open source", people can change every little "bit and byte" in it. However Motorola limited that freedom by putting many constraints and gave the user just a little bit of freedom.
if anyone have the stock Motorola V8 your menu will look like this
http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/5086/gsmarenalv4.jpg (http://imageshack.us/)http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/9824/gsmarenas003qy0.jpg (http://imageshack.us/)http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/1032/gsmarenas067on5.jpg (http://imageshack.us/)
The interface you saw will have to stick to you, because using the stock firmware that phone came with, the user cannot change or modify the look and feel of the phone, (when i bought the phone i had 2 themes, both with same icons and structure but different color)
but a Linux-based OS cannot be that limited, it has to have more, and thats exactly what i found :P
The idea is to replace the limited stock firmware "OS" (came from the factory) with a modified/customized one that have more flexibility, those modified firmwares are not created by Motorola, but by people who wanted to change their phone's look and feel. anyone can user this customized firmware (for Motorola razr2 v8 handset), only small things should be learned first.
your Motorola RAZR V8 can look like this after replacing the stock firmware

those screenshots was taken from my mobile after modding it and customizing it to my liking, everything you see is customizable from the icons, colors, structure, ... etc
After modding the phone with the appropriate firmware, the phone can "unlock" the following features that are not in the stock firmware:
1- Be able to reply an SMS from the external screen without having to open the phone (with the three sensitive buttons that was used only for music in the stock version)
2- Be able to have an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) session with your computer (exchange and replace files and system files in your phone easily)
3- Be able to add, delete, modify skins
4- Be able to change the "font" type of the whole phone (you can put any font you like on your phone)
5- Be able to install the famous linux video player (MPlayer) so you can play more video file extensions (.flv, .wma, ... etc)
and much more, ..
I just started to "mod" my Motorola RAZR2 V8 couple of months ago, so i am not exactly an "expert" in it, but its nice to learn new things about the phones that we have right
