UAE in finals of Microsoft's Imagine Cup

Teams from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and the UAE were selected to represent the region in the global
finals of the Imagine Cup that will be held in Poland in July.

Now in its eighth year, the Imagine Cup is Microsoft's initiative to encourage young people to apply their imagination and creativity to technological innovations that are focused on finding solutions to real world problems.

Finalists from 10 Gulf universities participated in the regional finals. The winners of the Gulf Imagine Cup 2010 were chosen after an intense competition among universities from the UAE, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait.

The American University of Kuwait team came first with its project 'Multi-touch tutoring system'. Second place went to the team from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, for its project 'Show me the traffic'. The third runner-up was the team from the University of Bahrain for their project 'Cash trash' and the fourth place went to the team from University of Wollongong, Dubai, for its project 'Ear-It'.

The four teams will participate in the global finals in Warsaw from July 3 until 8.

Charbel Fakhoury, Regional General Manager, Microsoft Gulf, said: "Imagine Cup has grown to be a truly global competition focused on finding solutions to real world problems."
